Honoring Friendship Through Challenging Adventures
Two close friends, Emily Russell and Eleanor Blake, are gearing up for an electrifying summer as they embark on a two-part hiking challenge in memory of their beloved friend, Eilidh McNab. This heartfelt initiative aims to commemorate Eilidh, who tragically lost her life in 2019 during an unfortunate incident at Bracklinn Falls in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Their adventure encompasses the daunting 96-mile journey along the West Highland Way, followed by a race to conquer the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales—the Three Peaks Challenge.
The Challenges Ahead
The dual hike, starting from Milgavnie on June 30, 2025, will involve traversing the breathtaking landscapes of the Scottish Highlands. Covering more than 119 miles and ascending approximately 6,500 meters over eight days, this physically demanding feat pays homage to Eilidh’s spirit and serves to benefit others in need. The friends aim to raise £2,500 to support the Killin Mountain Rescue team, whose members played an instrumental role in the tragic events surrounding Eilidh's passing.
Making a Meaningful Difference
Emily expressed the importance of this challenge: “Money raised will go towards providing every team member with a safety harness and replacing some technical hardware. Coincidentally, all equipment being replaced was used to assist in the rescue efforts for Eilidh back in 2019.” This fundraising initiative offers a poignant way to turn personal loss into a legacy that continues to benefit others. As they prepare for this strenuous endeavor, both Emily and Eleanor showcase the powerful connection between friendship, loss, and community engagement.
